The new requirement

Why identity verification matters

The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 requires company directors and Persons of Significant Control (PSCs) to verify their identity with Companies House. Completing verification keeps filings moving and reduces the risk of blocked Confirmation Statements or other statutory filings.

You can verify directly via GOV.UK One Login where eligible, or work with Intrachartered for a guided, fixed-fee process — especially useful if you prefer professional support or are based overseas.

FAQs

Common questions about identity verification

What is Companies House identity verification?
Under the ECCT Act 2023, directors and Persons of Significant Control of UK companies must verify their identity with Companies House. It is being rolled out for new incorporations and existing officers on a phased basis.
Who needs to verify?
All current and future directors and PSCs of UK limited companies, including UK residents and non-UK residents. New company officers typically need verification around incorporation; existing officers are required on an ongoing basis.
Can I verify directly with Companies House instead?
Yes. Companies House provides a direct route via GOV.UK One Login for eligible documents. Choose Intrachartered if you prefer fixed-fee professional support, are unsure which documents apply, or are based overseas.
Why does non-UK residency cost more?
Non-UK cases often involve extra document checks and more complexity than standard UK passport or driving licence routes. The £100 fee reflects that additional work.
How long does verification take?
Most UK resident verifications complete within 1–2 working days once documents are received. Non-resident cases can take a little longer depending on documentation.
What if directors or PSCs do not verify?
Companies House can restrict filings such as Confirmation Statements and accounts where identity verification is outstanding. Directors who fail to comply may also face personal penalties.
How are identity documents checked?
We do not collect passports or proof of address through this website. Where needed, secure checks are completed through Veriphy and through the official Companies House routes.
Can you process multiple people at once?
Yes. Each officer needs their own verification and fee, but we can coordinate several people on the same company in one go.
